The new GameInformer Australia magazine has been out for a week or so now, but due to general laziness we’ve only just picked it up. Perhaps magazines can provide news, as in an interview with the magazine, Rose Lappin of Nintendo Australia confirmed a local release of the DSi XL.

Announced back in late October, the DSi XL (LL in Japan) is a larger version of the original DSi, including two bigger screens. It was confirmed for Q1 2010 in both North America and Europe, but up until now we weren’t given any time frame for a release here. We now know it’ll be coming out in the same quarter for us, too.

She had also talked about release dates in general, or rather how they’ve been working on getting things released here sooner. For example, we received New Super Mario Bros. Wii quite a bit before the rest of the world, and the DSi before any other western nation. We also received the PAL releases of Professor Layton and Pandora’s Box and Zelda: Spirit Tracks before Europe did. Nice job, Nintendo Australia!
